Learn how to mention other users or pages in your social media posts with Swat.io and discover the unique behavior of each platform.
Creating a Mention
Open the Post Composer.
Type @ followed by the name of the person, page, or account you want to mention.
Select the correct suggestion from the dropdown list (if available).
Save your post, then schedule or publish it as usual.
On Facebook, you can mention any public page by typing @ followed by the name of the page in the Composer. As you type, Swat.io will suggest matching pages.
Note: Private profiles cannot be mentioned.
On Instagram, you can mention any profile by typing @ followed by the username, even if no suggestions appear in the Composer (suggestions only show for profiles you’ve already interacted with).
Tip: Use the preview to confirm that the mention was linked correctly—clicking the link in preview takes you to the tagged profile.
An additional feature on Instagram is tagging users in photo posts. The function is available for both photo and story posts.
Using the button below the file, you can directly tag users in the image. By confirming with the Enter key, the desired profile is linked and can also be checked directly for accuracy.
X
On X, mentions of any profile are supported. Type @ followed by the username in the Composer, choose from the suggestions, and the mention will link correctly in the published post.
TikTok
TikTok allows @mentions of any profile when creating a post in the caption field.
Suggestions are shown as you type and the mentions are also visible in the post preview.
Threads
Threads supports mentions of all profiles, but suggestions only appear for profiles you’ve already interacted with. Once published, any typed mention will link correctly.
Bluesky
On Bluesky, you can mention any profile by typing @ followed by the username. Suggestions may not always appear in the Composer (similar to Threads), but the mention will link correctly when the post goes live.
LinkedIn (Company Pages & Private Profiles)
When posting from a LinkedIn company page or profile, you can mention both company & university pages as well as private profiles. Type @ and the account name, and the Composer will suggest matching results.
Note: Private profiles can only be linked if the following conditions are met.
The private profile must have an English-language account available for selection.
Company pages can only mention profiles that follow your page.
Personal profiles can only mention connections in your network.
Troubleshooting LinkedIn @mentions in comments
If you’re unable to mention a LinkedIn profile, the following reasons may cause the issue. If any of the following criteria is met, you will not be able to @mention the account as desired:
1. The profile isn’t following your LinkedIn page
Mentions only work if the user follows your company page. As a page admin, verify their follower status or ask the user to follow your page.
2. Profile visibility is restricted
If privacy settings hide the profile, it won’t appear in suggestions.
3. Third‑party data sharing is turned off
Users can disable external data access in their privacy settings, preventing Swat.io from retrieving their profile.
4. Mentions are disabled in account settings
Users may prevent others from tagging them; if so, they cannot be mentioned.
