Instagram Stories: Format requirements

Please note the following limitations

In order to successfully publish a video or a picture via Swat.io, the uploaded file must meet the specifications required by the interface (API).

Note: Swat.io has no control over the requirements of the interface, as the APIs are provided and managed directly by the respective social medias. Accordingly, the requirements vary depending on the platform.

Instagram allows a maximum of 100 story elements to be published within 24 hours. With Swat.io you can upload several elements (images, videos) in one post.

Image-Specifications

Aspect ratio

9:16 recommended to avoid automatic cropping or blank areas

Format

jpeg, png, non-animated Gifs

Farbraum

sRGB - images useing other color spaces are converted to sRGB

File size

max. 8 MB

Display duration

max. 5 seconds

Video-Specifications

Aspect ratio

Format

mp4 (MPEG-4 Part 14), no edit lists, moov atom at the beginning of the file

Video-codec

HEVC or H264, progressive scan, closed GoP, color subsampling 4:2:0

Audio-codec (optional)

AAC, max. sampling rate 48 kHz, stereo

Resolution

max. width 1920 pixel

Captions

need to be integrated in the video

Frame-rate

23 to 60 frames per second

Video-bitrate

max. 25 mbit/s

min. 3 seconds, max. 90 seconds

File size

max. 300 MB

Important: Please make sure that your file upload meets all criteria mentioned above before starting the publication of the post. Otherwise, the video will be rejected by the API and will not be published. In this case a corresponding error message will appear in Swat.io's activity log.

Note on Instagram's Policies

Please also adhere to the Meta community-guidelines, to ensure your content does not violate any rules. In particular:

  • Do not violate any copyright without permission;

  • No glorification of violence or discriminating content;

  • No hate speech or other inappropriate content.

Violations of these guidelines may result in the removal of your video from the platform or restrictions of your account on the respective platform.
