With the Tag Products feature (also known as "Product Tagging" or "Shopping Tags"), you can link items from your shop directly in your Instagram posts. This allows your community to navigate from the image directly to the product with just one click.

Prerequisites

To use this feature, the following criteria must be met:

  • Instagram Business Account: Your channel must be set up as a Business account.

  • Active Instagram Shop: Your account must be linked to a functioning Facebook/Instagram product catalog.

  • Meta Guidelines: Your shop must meet the Meta Commerce Eligibility Requirements.

  • Supported Location: Your shop must be located in a country supported by Meta.

Important: Currently, this feature is not available for shops in Austria, as it is not on the list of markets supported by Meta. Customers from Germany and Switzerland can use this function.

How to Tag Products in the Composer

Tagging products works almost exactly like tagging people.

  1. Open the Composer and select your Instagram channel.

  2. Upload your image or video (for Reels).

  3. Click on the Tag Users or Products icon located below the media attachment.

  4. A window will open. Switch to the "Products" tab here.

  5. Click on the area where you want to link the product, then select your Product Catalog and choose the Products you want to add.

Limitations & Important Notes

Please keep the following technical limitations of the Instagram API in mind when planning your content:

  • Instagram Only: Tagging products is only possible on Instagram (not on Facebook).

  • Formats: Supported formats are Image Posts and Reels.

  • No Stories: Currently, products cannot be tagged in Instagram Stories via Swat.io.

  • Quantity: The limit is 20 products per post.
