Getting started with Publisher and Composer

Written by Patrick Diem

This article walks you through how to create a new post in Swat.io, select a channel, set a publishing date and choose your desired publishing mode.

Important: In order to publish posts with Swat.io, you first have a social media channel connected. Learn how to add channels here.

Create a new post

  1. Go to Publisher in the left sidebar;

  2. Click the "Create" button either on the top or in the calendar klick into any day you wish to create a post on;

  3. Select the channel for which the post should created and published.

This will open the Post Composer, where you can create your post.

Note: Only one channel can be selected when creating a post, but once the post is saved in Swat.io, you can duplicate or adapt the post for additional channels.

New tags can be assigned using the "Tags" button in the action bar at the top.

Channel

Here you can select or switch the channel on which the post should be published.

Campaign

You can use this button to assign the post to an existing campaign. For more detailed information about campaigns and which packages include them, click here.

Publishing date and time

There you have two options:

  • Publish Now: The post is published immediately after clicking the "Publish Now" button.

  • Scheduled: The post is planned for a later time, which you can select manually.

Assigned to

Select the team member the post should be assigned to. If left blank, you will be set as the responsible user.

Status (Approval)

  • Suggested: The post is saved but not automatically published.

  • Approved: The post is approved for publishing.

Default publishing settings

Automatic publishing

  • Posts are published automatically at the scheduled time without requiring any manual action.

  • The post must have a status of "Approved" for automatic publishing to occur.

Reminder publishing

  • Posts are not published automatically. Instead, the assigned user receives a reminder via email and in Swat.io 10 minutes before the scheduled time. Note that the person must have their Swat.io notifications enabled for this;

  • That way the post needs to be manually published after receiving the reminder.

By default, new posts in Swat.io are initially created as "Reminder" instead of "Automatic". If you want new posts to be published automatically going forward, you can set this manually for each channel individually.

Info: In order to access the workspace settings or to add a new channel in Swat.io, you need permissions as "workspace manager". In case you don't have this permission, please reach out to a workspace manager or Swat.io Admin in your organization.

Therefore follow these steps:

  1. Open the general "Workspace Settings" in the bottom left by clicking on your account name;

  2. If you have the necessary permissions in Swat.io, you'll see the "Channels" option in the "Workspace" section on the left;

  3. Select a channel for which you want to enable this feature and scroll down to the Publisher-section.

  4. Enable the default option "Automatic publish".

Once this setting is enabled, all newly created or duplicated posts for that channel will default to "Automatic" publishing. You can disable this option at any time if you prefer to use reminders instead.

Use cases and best practices

  • Use Automatic publishing for posts that are pre-approved and ready to go live without further intervention.

  • Opt for Reminder publishing when posts require final review or manual adjustments before going live.

  • Make sure to regularly review your channel settings to ensure they align with your team’s workflow and publishing needs.
