You want to connect an Instagram channel to Swat.io?
Here you’ll find all the necessary steps as well as helpful troubleshooting tips.
Requirements
Before you get started, please make sure the following conditions are met:
Your Instagram account is a Business or Creator account.
The Instagram account is linked to a Facebook Page.
Info: In order to access the workspace-settings or to add a new channel in Swat.io, you need permissions as “workspace manager”. In case you don’t have this permission, please contact your Swat.io administrator.
Step 1: Convert Instagram Account
If your account is still a personal one, first convert it to an Instagram Business or Creator account:
Open the Instagram app.
Go to Settings.
Select the account type: “Business” or “Creator”.
Step 2: Link to Facebook Page
Your Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook Page:
After switching to a Business or Creator account, this link is usually offered automatically.
If not, you can manually connect it in your settings.
Important: Each Instagram Business account needs to be linked to a specific Facebook Page. If you don’t have an existing Facebook Page linked, you can also create an empty “dummy page”. This page does not have to contain any content.
Step 3: Check Admin Rights
Before adding the channel, make sure you are listed as an admin with full control for the page in Meta Business Suite:
Open the relevant Meta Business Suite.
Navigate to: Settings > Pages.
Ensure your user account is listed with full control.
4: Add Instagram Channel to Swat.io
Open the Workspace Settings in Swat.io.
Click on “Channels”.
In the top right, select “Add Channel”.
Choose “Instagram” as the channel type.
If your channel appears in the list:
Select it and confirm – done!
No further steps are required.
Step 5: Facebook Authorization
If a Facebook authorization window appears:
Click “Select all current and future Pages”.
Enable all available channels and permissions.
Fully confirm the dialog.
After successful authorization, your Instagram channels will appear in Swat.io.
Info: Swat.io requires these permissions in order to properly sync future channels as well.
Troubleshooting
What can you do if your channel doesn't appear at the end of the setup process?
Option 1: Limited Facebook Permissions
It’s likely that Facebook permissions were only granted for specific channels, which can limit the available selection in Swat.io.
Here’s how to fix it:
Click on “View and Edit” next to Swat.io
Make sure all permissions are enabled for all connected pages and accounts
After that, you can try adding your channel to Swat.io again.
Important: If you reset Swat.io in the Facebook Business Integrations, all access tokens for existing Facebook and Instagram channels will become invalid.
Option 2: Unlink & Reconnect
If none of the previous steps helped, there might be an issue with the Instagram–Facebook connection.
Open the Facebook Page Settings.
Go to the “Instagram” tab.
Scroll down and click “Unlink”.
Then reconnect your Instagram Business Account via the Facebook Page.
Option 3: Reset Instagram Account
Open the Instagram app or go to the web settings.
Switch back to a personal account.
Open the Page Settings on Facebook (not via Business Manager!).
Click “Instagram” in the left-hand menu.
Reconnect your Instagram profile and select Business Profile again when prompted.
